What is expert testimony?
Many people around the world are not aware of what is expert testimony is all about. First of all we should make ourselves clear of the term testimony. We would have heard of the word testimony when a scientist or a professional in a particular field gives a testimony about the issue related to their field. Testimony is something given to testify a particular issue or subject by an expert in that field. In the same way we can define expert testimony by saying that testimony are the fact seen or sensed by the eye witness of a crime and it should be sensed rather than their opinion or impressions.

These testimonials given by the eye witness of the crime will be very much of use in convicting a criminal with appropriate charges in a federal court or state court. Usually these testimonials are very powerful tool in the process of trials against anti social elements. Only what the eye witness have sensed will be valid and not that if he has an impression or opinion about the crime the court will never consider his testimonial. But in certain cases the witness is allowed to furnish opinion evidence. This kind of opinion evidence is further classified into two. Lay opinion and expert opinion. Lay opinion is valid only if the reason for the witness’s opinion is plausible and also to make the understanding even better the witness may say their opinion. Only expert opinion is valid in the court under the normal laws.
